I’m not able to see my BJ7 right now but I remember having this quandary also when I assembled the car years ago. And I can’t remember which way I ultimately decided. But I do remember that a factor that influenced me back then was water drainage. I believed that the eyebrow should go over the grill surround to keep water from running between the two.

Trying to tie up some loose end jobs .
seeing as I’m using an alternator to power all those rally lights etc I now have no where to mount the new coil …..so……
Make a custom coil mount bracket .
just need a longer bolt to go through the alternator mounting and it will sit basically in the same spot as it did with generator .

I eliminated one horn then moved the remaining horn down to the diagonal brace
from toe box then mounted the coil on the vertical brace that the horns were on. Been running it that way for about 15 years. One horn is more than enough and I don’t think I have ever used it in anger.

I never liked the coil mounted on/near the motor. The idea is to keep them as cool as possible and away from any heat source.

Got the new gear reduction starter installed and have been able to spin the motor with all the plugs out and no fuel pump .
was able to make oil pressure and get oil to all the rockers and shaft etc so that’s a big thumbs up .
instruments are on the way back to me so fire up day for the old girl is closing in . Just need some new ignition bits and some fuel .

I'd gone back to work about the same time that oil last was a hundred bucks a barrel and our BJ7's paint job from the 1980s was bubbling. Upshot: a lot, lot, more than a paint job.
Fenders had a swack of fill that we didn't know about, and the question was: steel replacement fenders, or clean up the originals? Made a guess and bought replacements, and they took a lot of 'fettling' - might have been a better idea to rework the originals, but you never know. It all took man-hours and skill.
The car turned our really well (body and various mechanical upgrades etc. etc.). I can't justify the money that the project absorbed, but it sure made sense for me (since I was able to 'unretire' for this second time) to turn my personal man-hours into getting paid, and ship the money to the shop. I can justify my man-hours in the office, as the end result was vastly superior to me spending the same hours, sitting in the garage, overwhelmed.
The car is sure amazingly done!
PS: 'rally pods'? On our Sprite, we call them 'bugeyes'......

That’s because it’s a Sprite and not a mild recreation of the works Rally cars

More progress . Electrical almost done , just the indicators/side lights to mock up and test . Instruments all in and checked along with panel lights etc 👍.
Final check of ignition timing etc , fuel and fire er up coming soon .
And as an FYI that’s a 14” wheel and boss from SC spares in the UK .

Yes I know the wheel is on backwards , will fix it tomorrow ☺️

Congrats on the progress - looking good!

However, before anyone else mentions it, you know, you have the steering wheel mounted backwards. The grooves/scallops in the wood, on the rim, that are currently facing the driver are actually meant to be finger notches (sorry if I don't know the technical name for them) and they're meant to face the instrument panel. There's no law, that I know of, that says you can't mount it the way you have it, but you're likely to encounter a lot of people who comment on it and ask about it. Maybe you're OK with that.

Oh crap, now I checked the pic again you're right. I was so happy to get that trafficator and wiring in along with the gauges, etc.,
plus I was conference calling at the same time with my daughter. Guess I will have to quit multitasking ☺️
Tks for the heads up.
