Wedge ZS's to SU's on my TR7

I just went through a huge bag of stuff that came with my 7 when I bought it 4 years ago. The PO parted out a '76 and put everything in there. Amongst all the stuff, some stuff I don't know what they are for, there was a "Like new" intake manifold. I have the old set of SU's.. AUD550..that I took off my replacement 1977 MGB engine when I got it, and put the set on that were with the 74.5 (from a 72) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
My question is what would I have to do to set these SU's up on this manifold, and would I notice a differance if I was to transfer them over in the winter, and remove the ZS's. The car is running great now, but somtimes you have to experiment.
Thanks

Paul

I think the real question about SU's vs. ZS's is what is the difference in the flows. I have never seen any studies that demo the flow of a stock 1 3/4 ZS to the same size SU (or any other equal size SU-ZS configuration). The feeling of which one is best is left to personal preferences for adjustments, ease of adjusting and parts available, ease of rebuild, etc., and looks.

Until you know if one flows better than the other, you don't know which one would potentially give you better performance.

Hello Klutz,
U.K. TR7's used S.U.'s, HS6 i.e. 1 3\4" size so I assume your Strombergs are that size. The AUD550 is a HIF4, 1 1\2" so I would imagine you would lose power. There is little to chose between Strombergs and S.U.'s of the same size as regards power, but to me S.U's are more reliable as there is not the rubber diaphragm that the Stromberg uses.

I would certainly hesitate to switch when the car is running well. Generally, people switch from ZS to SU when they've given up on the ZSs.
