ZS metering needles

I'm having a LOT of trouble taking the metering needles, and the needle adjuster screw out of my carbs. I'm rebuilding them, and I cannot get the f*ckers out of there. Yes, I have the long allen tool. Any advice? On a similar note, I can't get the water pump out either.

Don't know about your carbs - but the water pump on slant 4's is a ****.

Last time I took one out a friend fabricated a quick little tool that we sat under the retaining nut (i.e. nut out then screwed back in through a hole in special tool) and then we bashed the custom lump of metal upwards with a hammer. Kind of like simulating a slide hammer - which is what you're meant to use.
