zinc leaves in rear springs bn2

I have not been able to find the zinc leaves that go in the rear springs. I was thinking of leaves of stainless steel, which I can find locally in Colombia. Does anyone know where to find the zinc leaves in the USA or any ideas are welcomed.
Thanks

Hello musme,

I'm not so sure zinc interleaves are installed in leaf springs anymore. Probably something to do with EPA laws.

You could try asking AH Spares in the UK to see what they use.

I used strips of Teflon 1/16" thick but that was about 15 years ago and don't know where you would get it today.

I cannot see why the stainless steel would not work. The original zinc leaves were there to cut down on friction between the leaves and were sacrificial. They tended to corrode away before they were worn away.

You could also lay down a coat of an anti-seize compound on both sides of the stainless interleaves. That also would help reduce any tendency to "squeak" and may help to keep out any moisture.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

I started with stainless srtips with anti sieze. After a few years of squeeking I remove the stainless and replaced with teflon. No sqeeks, or binding of the springs. The ride quality is far better. I purchased the teflon from a local plastic supply store. It is easy to work with as you can cut it with a scissors.

I would recommend the teflon or some plastic derivative.
Good Luck

Hello KevinBN7,

I would never have thought to try a plastics store but now I think of it why not. What a great idea, thanks.

Hello bqbassplyr,

I personally would say that this looks like a good alternative. I find it amazing that people can come up with this type of information, this is why we are on here.

The only trouble is our man musme is in Columbia and postage down there must be pretty high especially for the small amount he will need.

Best regards,

bundyrum.
