Zienith single carb problems.

I don't want to divert this conversation from the real issue but I see no evidence that my car ever had a heat shield - would that make sense?
Doc'll have to chime in on this one...but, doesn't aluminum handle heat differently than metal?

Aluminum absorbs heat more quickly than ferrous metal, also gives it up more rapidly.

The originals were likely made of the insulating material on the "hot" side of a steel shield instead of aluminum due to expense and vibration embrittlement issues with "affordable" aluminum.

It was likely prohibitive to have made an "aircraft" aluminum shield 1/4" thick. Steel and insulation were cheaper.

Actually, Doc, they were nothing but a formed heat absorbing material much like asbestos - no metal was involved.

Well the new metering needle came in today and I replaced it and made it to the end of the driveway where the fuel pump apparently gave up. So I reattached the aftermarket electric fuel pump and she started up. I went around the block and definetly performed better but still seems a bit rich but Ill wait for the colortune to get here to adjust it some more though. The new needle is shorter than the old one so I wonder if I had the wrong needle in there before or if the new MOSS one is just different in it's own sprecial way. The EGR showed up today too but they sent me the wrong one. I think the one they sent is for an earlier MG or something. The Grose jet does not impress me at all either so I don't think I'll be using that.

Okay that sounds about right. Now, does anyone have one they pulled off with all its associated bits and pieces that they are not planning on using and would care to part with? I will pay something reasonable for it or maybe allow use of an MG Midget for a day next time you’re in Hawaii. You'll have to pay for your own petrol though.

I'm out of town right now but I might be able to help you with some of those pieces - Let me check next week when I'm home

Thanks, much appreciated.

Well that EGR I ordered turned out to be the wrong part. No one seems to list one for this car anymore. Does anyone know where I could find one? I think the lack of this may be one of the things affecting the performance as well.

Did you use Moss #367-080?

Take your old original one down to the nearset Nissan dealer & tell them you need an EGR for an early 260Z or 280Z.

No I did not. I'll give that a try. Since I was kinda stuck with trying to get the old girl to lean out I got creative and put a paper fuel filter onto a vacuum line and plugged that into the vacuum inlet on the intake manifold basically forcing more air in there to lean it out. So far it's working pretty good still rich but the engine has smoothed out and I seem to have a little more pickup with less stuttering while I accelerate. Still not a proper fix but it makes it drivable for now.

you've got a PM

Does anyone have an adsorption canister bracket they would be willing to part with?

I don't have one at all so sorry no pic.
