Lobsters that big aren't edible anyway. The fisherman gave it to the aquarium, probably won't last that long in a new environment, though.

For a long time I wasn't a real zoo fan...however, now that I have a grandson who's enamored with animals of all types I understand their value....he's just 2 & as soon as we get out of the car, he tells me he can hear the sea lions talking...& he loves the kangaroos, & is enthralled with feeding the giraffees...even turtles at the zoo capture his attention....in the cat building, he always wants to pet the African Desert Cat & the big tigers rubbing against the glass at the interior viewing area don't scare him.

& his little questions about the animals are absolutely amazing (& usually things an adult would never think of!)

We have an annual family ticket & take him every chance we get.....so, its important to have wildlife living in their natural areas so our little ones can learn to appreciate them.

While I don't like seeing wild animals in captivity, I, too, understand the need for zoos. But taking a 100-year-old animal out of its home and putting it in a tank is just wrong. Young animals are much more likely to survive, and even thrive in captivity, than old ones. They should have respected their elders and left the poor thing alone. There are plenty of captive-bred lobsters that are perfectly happy in aquariums. We don't need to torture wild ones!

At work, my computer doesn't have the software to run the original poster's link, so I just googled about the big lobster. I failed to notice that the story I linked to was in 2005...Anyway, it is tragic that the 22 lb. guy died in the zoo.
