Drove a few blocks down the street (& around the cornor) to borrow a tool.
While returning,Driving 25 MPH (the speed limit),had a 17 year old neighbor girl pass
me on the right, doing 35-40 MPH.I was tempted to turn the wheel,& run into her,but
decided it wasn't worth an accident.
When I arrived home,I noticed that she'd gone another block to turn around, although
she ended up turning around again,to park ACROSS the street from her home.
I knocked on her dor, approached by one of the other teenagers in the home.I asked
to speak with an adult, but was told that there weren't any.I then apprached the 17 YO girl,
who promtly attacked me (& using foul language - when did Girls start talking this way?).
When her mother & grandmother got home,I approached them,& was confronted by
a VERY agitated mother, who got in my face,& told me that she was at a doctor's appt,& her
daughter called & said that I was attacking her,& cussing her out (I almost never use foul-
language).
When she finally calmed down,I was able to explain MY side of the story,& James,from-
NC,backed me up,being in my truck at the time of the original incident.
Then today,I had a Prius driver,in the right hand lane that merges to the left lane,on a
city street,passed me,as I backed off,realising that it wasn't worth an accident.
What is it with stupid drivers?

Well, I have 2 comment. 1: if you want to see bad drivers, move to New Jersey. 2: Most parents today always backup their kids, even if the kids are wrong. I see it every day and it makes me sick. The attitude seems to be that the kids are perfect and never do anything wrong. I try not to be that way(my youngest is 16) Many of these kids have NEVER been yelled at for doing something stupid.

Perhaps I'm just being negative but the concept of kids taking responsibility just isn't there. It's an all about me generation and they externalize rather than internalize their actions. I.E. my car crashed into the tree because the tree was in the way. Sad. I am hopeful that this is not the forever norm for this generation. Please read my post "True Confessions." This was a youngster who was drvining the Porsche and while the post on the surface is humorous it just speaks volumes about the 'me' attitude.

Well that's my negative for the day...

Doug, you gotta be careful with stuff like that. You shouldn't engage a teenage girl without at least another adult (preferably female) or a guardian around. It's too easy for her to turn things around to cover her a$$. You may suddenly find yourself to be labeled the "creepy" bad guy that follows teenage girls around. They have overactive imaginations to begin with. Here's a prime example. Before they took the audio out they four squirrely chicks thought some handicapped woman was "following" them...even though they were walking down almost every isle.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQzC25BDpjE

Play it safe and just hit them next time. Instead of buying another convertible, get an old crown vic instead. :emmersed:

Are you sure your speedometer is accurate? I know my truck reads higher than the speed I'm driving.

Billy,

If you re-read my post, you'll notice that I mentioned that James (read my post in the MG Forum),
backed me up.

You need an adult present that represents (protects) the GIRL'S interests, not another person that supports yours. That smacks of "ganging up on".

Exactly, you don't want to tip her off to what's up and give her a chance to come up with "her" version, which sounds like exactly what she did. They may be young but hey aint entirely stupid.

I have to wonder how much is related to the texting world younger people live in. When you're rarely face to face with most of your "friends" and never have to suffer to consequences of bad behavior is it any wonder that they never fully develop a sense of empathy for all the rest of humanity they share the planet with.

not only young drivers, I had an older man(prob 50-60) two feet from my back bumper last night in a lexus suv flashing his lights for me to move over and almost passed me in a left turn lane but it was too short, I was doing 15kph over the posted limit of 50, so I slowed down to 50 to p him off even more and when he did pass me (on the inside) he got stuck behind 2 cars that were using the two lanes and going the same speed. When I got to the lights where I turn left he was also at the red light.

Hey Don, I am 67 and of course I don't consider myself old :friendly_wink:

If we are to believe recent brain research, part of the problem is the "chance taking" part of the brain does not mature until about age twenty-five. Most of us can remember to stupid stuff we did as teenagers and wouldn't do now. Not making excuses, understand, nothing can replace consequences of one's actions. Most of us learned that by getting caught in scraped fenders. Sadly, some don't learn because they don't live long enough. I remember my insurance premium was very high until about age twenty-five. The insurance companies knew what research has shown to be mostly true, I think.

A 19 y.o guy I once knew had a '69 440/4speed Road Runner. Whenever anyone behind him would make him mad, he sit through an entire green light with them behind him. Once it turned red, he'd dump the clutch at redline and smoke 'em through the intersection leaving the offender stuck at the light.

Are you that young man Billy?

George H,
I'm from Jersey and I remember what it was like driving in the N.Y, N.J. area back in the 70's and early 80's. It was bad then, can't imagine it's any better now.
The thing is it's gotten bad everywhere. A lot of bad attitude, lack of courtesey, and individuals who don't have licenses, insurance, or any concept of how to drive in the U.S. all make for some trying moments.

I don't see it getting any better now that the cell phone/texting generation is at large. Defensive driving is more important now than ever. I used to drive my motorcycle to work but as of late, thanks to the afore mentioned, I leave the bike at home.

Untill there's a major change in attitude we're in for a tough ride in my estimation. time to think about trading in the sports cars and bike for a Humvee.
