Yet another Triumph question

According to www.supercars.net, the TR6 has 104.1 hp @ 4500 rpm and 142 lb ft of torque @ 3000 rpm, and weighs 2359 lbs. They also say the TR4a has 105 hp @ 4650 rpm and 128 lb ft of torque @ 3350 rpm and weighs 2330 lbs. Yet the TR4 still beats the TR6 to 60 in 10.5 seconds as opposed to the 6's 10.7. Shouldn't the 6 beat the 4, considering it has 14 more lb ft of torque? Does the extra weight really make that much of a difference? It's only 29 lbs.

You have to understand, these cars were not tested in the same place at the same time and under the same conditions.

As I mentioned in the other post, the 4 and 6 have near identical times for 0-60.

As for HP, Torque and Weight -- yes they have a lot to do with 0-60 times. Also keep in mind that gearing, tires, altitude, state of tune, temperature and most importantly DRIVER skill (not to mention driver's weight!) can make huge differences.

Can you tell me the total diameter of the tire and rim of your TR3? I assume that that will be the same size as the wheels on a TR4 and TR6. I'd like to find out what RPMs the engine is at, at a certain speed.

The TR2/3/4 series all use a 165/15 tyre of 25 inch diameter (there will be minor variations from one manufacturer to another) whereas the TR6 uses a 185/15 tyre which will be about 25.7 inches in diameter. Both predate manufacturers quoting aspect ratios but are approximately 80 series in modern terms.
Simon.

Hey Webb
I know a young person like you looks at 0-60 times and they are impressive but in a tr4 or tr6 you don't really worry about how fast you can go but how many times people wave at you and/or say nice car or ask you what it is. There is nothing more fun to have something that is different then a majority of the people out there. And if you want to go fast in a lbc just don't use your brakes around the corners and that should be enough fun to make you forget about 0-60 times.
