For what it's worth, I think my M2 looks a lot like a 7/8 scale XK-8 (maybe a bit of Ford crossover?)

Notice there are no side shots - everything's on the oblique....bet its a strange looking little thing from a side view - too short in the middle, too long on ends!

If I were to go the swoopy bodykit look on a Miata, I'd head straight for the Pitcrew Racing kit, anyway. Longtime Miatanetters will know what I'm talking about. I think you can still see pics of it over at rspeed's site.
