Picking up Binabox's engine tomorrow! I'm anxious to see it! I think Chuck's having John paint it, so it may not be coming home. Hmmm. ~makes note to send camera with hubby tomorrow~

And 9 days til paint!

Is it already assembled or just back from machine shop? If it's already assembled, them boys work quick...

Why heck if you have the parts to hand, a couple of hours will do the job. With a tea break.

Oh no, not assembled! Just 'done' at the machine shop. Except for paying and picking it up! I get to help assemble!

So hmm, he has to bring it home, right?

A couple hours to put it together? You a betting man?

Think maybe, just maybe mine will come home tomorrow as well. Yea I can do it in a couple of hours if all the parts are ready to go. But then that's how I work, assemble all the bits and go for it.

I don't think we have all the bits yet. Unless it's at John's or in the garage somewhere. Flywheel, cam (not sure if it came or not), other bits aren't quite ready yet, unless Chuck did some work that I missed, and he was working out in the garage a LOT last week.

AND, I have to get the manifolds JetHotted. Remind me to box them up and mail that off by Saturday!

After you get the block and the other bits & pieces painted, it'd take a few hours from start to finish. Obviously, the more you've done this, the quicker you'll be at it. I'd block out a day or two for it anyway.

Very nice. Putting it together is the fun part and goes really quick. I hope you had the machine shop install the cam bearings as they are not fun. Well 2 arn't bad but the middle one sucks.

I'm thinking more like a week or two Josh. And nothing is painted yet.

yea, I am missing parts as well. Valve cover, rod and main bearings, exhaust manifold, and must disassemble second eng for the timeing chain cover. However, I think it is going to be quite a while yet till I have something to put it in so no prob. at all. It will all come together in good time. I am seriously considering haveing my flywheel lightened a bit as well. Oh yea need to send carb bases off for resleaving of rods.

What happened to, "Binabox can wait, Going to put all the money into Emma?"

I think it was, I'll sell Binabox and put the money in Emma.

Emma requires little to keep her happy. Once she gets her pacemaker, she'll be good to go again! Gawd help me if she strands me on that 24 hour rally a month from today.

Remember...

Chuck is just a phone call away if it does. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't need no stinkin' man when I have roadside, flatbed assistance. Besides, he'll be in Texas for a week fishing then. Besides, my cohort/copilot is quite the mechanic herself. She's in the midst of rebuilding her engine now.

Ahh nah. Stefanie's a looker. Youngun, 38 years old.

hehehehe....

Ok. A computer controlled machine and a human or 3 can build a modern v-6 or v-8 engine in about 3-4 hours (including the casting bits). But I think a week or so is reasonable time frame for 1 or 2 people (women included) to assemble an engine - even a 4-cylinder - for the first time... from scratch! I'd probably take a but longer than that!

Go you own pace Janel! You'll get there. And don't sell Binabox... She's basically paid for already! and you'll have a better, more fun car than Emma when she's done!!!!!!

Why am I suddenly reminded of the movie..."Thelma and Louise" ??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Must be this one.

It's better to take your time on evolutions like putting an engine together. Take the time to ask yourself the questions that normally come up long after it is assembled and back in the car. Makes for better peace of mind in the long run. Follow the advice of the manuals on taking measurements and running parts in after assembled. I've thrown a lot of engines together and they ended up just fine but the ones that I assembled "properly" (as I understand properly to be anyway) always made me feel a little more secure.
