I have a 68 1.5 E with a series 2 tach. my only problem is the tach reads double the actual revs all the time. anyone have an idea whats up with this?

I drove the car for 3 years this way, but as its in process of new paint i figured i should fix a few nagging things. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Are you sure it's a series 2 tach? A series 3 unit for the V-12 would read double on a six-cylinder engine wouldn't it? Check the small print at the bottom of the dial, should state there whether it's for a twelve or a six.

nope marked 6 cyc , i dont think it has ever been changed, this is a low miles long term stored car. I assume the previous owner was quite displeased with how slow this car was at redline /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif it is an odd feeling pegging the tach while driving

Sounds like it needs a rebuild, unless you have a Mallory dual point dist. Then it would read double (I think).

Kerry, a series 2 tach works by an induction pickup in the tach. You will find a wire with two or three loops through the pickup in the back(inside) the tach. Carefully unsolder the wire and reduce the number of times the wire loops through the pickup by one and your tach should be nearly correct. This is a common problem where a pointless ignition has been addded. I had this same problem when I replaced the points with a Pentronics unit. (Great unit) Good luck . Contact me if I can be af any help. Rick /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
