XK 140 fender skirts [spats]

I'm in the midst of restoring a 140 OTS with discs and fender skirts. I have noticed that at the top of the rear fender well, there is a small plate welded on the back side where the fender skirt latch, once closed, keeps the skirt from falling out. However that little plate is cut even with the wheel well and I've noticed that the latch only makes about an 1/8th of an inch contact with it. Sure looks to me like a little vibration or hitting a good pot hole and the whole skirt could just fly off. I'm wondering if that little plate should stick down a little so the latch makes more contact? If anyone has an XK with skirts could take a look, I would sure appreciate it. Mac
