hello,
i recently bought my first jag, a xk 120.
it's in reasonably good shape considering the age. before i start working on it i'd love to hear from some other xk owners who may have any advice or suggestions on what and what not to do to this car. it's a beautiful machine.thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share.

Hey DB Cooper (isn't the FBI looking for you?

) But seriuosly, you have probably one of the most beautiful cars ever made! I restored (sort of) a 54 XK120 several years ago and it was a blast. I'm not an expert, but the best advice I can give is to divide the job into managable tasks (Body work, Engine, Front Suspension, Rear Suspension, Brakes, etc.) and tackle each job one at a time and try to do the best at each that you can (and that you can afford). As you procedd ask LOTs of questions. Get a Factory Manual if you can. I think reprints are available, but still a bit pricy but worth it. Also, be sure to subscribe to Hemmings Motor News if you don't already. You can find them on https://www.hmn.com Their monthy magazine was a God-send when I restored my 120. Good luck, Any pics?

By the way, welcome to the forum!

hello basil,
thanks for the encouragement with my new jag.
i noticed you have a miata also so let me ask you a question. how does driving the xk 120 compare to the miata? i assume the jag must feel a little clunkier but the more i read about them the more i think it might be a bad little buggy.
i'll send some pics along as soon as i take them.
thanks for your help and advice. i really enjoy the website.

No comparison between a Miata and a 120. Both fun in their own way, but very very different. The Miata is a fun little roaqdster, but very very refined. The 120 was sort of like driving a small truck (no rack and pinion). The 120 has loads of torque though and sounds wonderful.
