xjs v12 1991, how much of a jerk should be felt moving selector between n,d and r, would an oil change help?

There really shouldn't be much of a jerk. While a fluid change may be in order, I suspect that the problem may be the transmission mount.

What speed is it idleing at? Should be 750 to 800 warm in drive. Also, check that all of the driveshaft to flange bolts are tight. If they are loose (common) it will clang when shifting.

Check the U-Joints for the driveshaft as well.
