XJ8 or XJR?

Jaguarists:

Almost decided to purchase XJ8 (2004 or later) for my well-deserved retirment gift to self. Have AH BE Sprite 1960, frame off restored with 1275cc, etc. Fun to drive especially when driven too fast by spouse's standards. Also have 04 mini cooper S with a few modifications...like to push it.

So.....would appreciate your input, opinions advice on the XJ8/XJR choice. Obviously, I'm drawn to performance. But, I'm also drawn to get machinery to work well and reliably over the long haul.

Thanks in advance for your help.

At a quandry in the Heartland.

Both to me are excellent cars. I myself would go to the XJR.
Now you must look at suspension ( prone to bushing wear at 20K intervals ). All electrics must be reset by dealer or a independent with Autologic diagnostics, not a self set option. BECM and ECUs do have a connection and are set thru dealer network and can malfunction at times. All warning signals in car self diagnostics are dealer reset after self replacement. In other words, they can be self maintained but elctricals are dealer reset.

Thanks, Larry...Been to your town quite a few times. Very good place. I appreciate the advice on what mechanical systems to consider. Why do you prefer the XJR?
