On veterans day the local paper ran an article about a local veteran, Marvin Metzler, who served on the USS Salt Lake CA25 Heavy Cruiser. Mentioned in the article was a map of naval operations in the Pacific. The map was hand drawn and lettered by Mr. Metzler in the 60's. I found the map at the ships memorial website store, purchased it and took it over Mr. Metzlers home to have him autograph it. He is 91 years old and a wonderful gentleman, my wife and I visited with him and his wife for half an hour. The ships website and store is here. The ships history is quite interesting.

The map is very detailed listing ships involved, location and names of ships sunk, numbers of personnel involved and losses. Major battles are detailed on the periphery of map.

I had two maps laminated and am sending one to my Dad who served in an Avenger torpedo bomber.

Interesting, I wonder how much radiation there was on that ship after 2 blast. Then to be sunk off the CA. coast
