WTB: Bugeye Tachometer Blanking Plate

Looking for an original bugeye Tachometer Blanking Plate. I'm sure there are not too many around, but thought I would try. Thanks

I've never seen one either and it looks like a simple plate the same diameter as the tach. On page 26 of Original Sprite and Midget, Horler states that the blanking plate has 2 chrome bezel red main beam warning lights, but page 27 shows only 1. I would look to the UK based forums as well as eBay UK for one and not rule out a new one.

Yeah, I have been warned it would be impossible to find, especially in the US... but I'm sure there is one sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Do you have an original Tach delete car?

No, but I'm trying to get one for my sprite to replicate the look of some of the early factory race cars

So, on the race cars they used the plate to delete the speedo?

right, they fitted what was normally used to blank off the tachometer to instead blank off the speedometer (not needed), and then fitted a Smiths Chronometric tachometer

Fairly simple....if all else fails you could make one.

Kurt.

Based on the pictures, it looks like it may have a rolled lip on the plate.

If it was too complicated a shape to fabricate out of sheet metal a simple mold could be made to form it out of fiberglass. Looks as if it might have been stamped out of aluminum originally.
