wrong brake cable?

I just received my handbrake cable from Moss #331-130. My "66 is #105144, this cable is for roadsters up to 132922 and for wire wheels with banjo style axle. The sheathing on the old cable stopped at the compensator, then a bare wire continued to each of the wheels. This new one has the sheathing going all the way to the driver's side wheel, but the bare wire that is supposed to reach the other wheel only goes about 6 inches past the pumpkin housing since it starts at the driver's side wheel as apposed to the compensator. Do I have the wrong cable? Any experience with this?

I'll attempt to get a photo of the setup in the AM if the rain dissipates. You should have a rod to one side, cable to the other. A kind of "push me, pull you" setup with the bellcrank at the diff as the regulator. None of the manuals cover it very well.

Have patience, this rain is the first we've had in months. Storm "Barry" is offshore as I type.

to clarify my dilemma, I am replacing the existing stretched out cable, and as I remove one section, bracket connection etc I replace old with new. I know what the end product is supposed to look like, but I can't fathom how the new cable will work. In the pictures you can see that the cable end that would connect to the drivers side is at the approximate location where it will stay, yet the cable that is supposed to activate pass side brake barely reaches center of car.

Looks to be the right cable, I'd say set up the REAR parts first, THEN check to see if the bottom of the e-brake handle linkage won't attach. If the sheathed cable is so short it doesn't reach the actuating arm of the handle, something is definitely FUBAR.

Once again the forum comes through. Yup, starting from the brakes and working back to the handle made all the difference. Thanks Doc. So far you, Tony and Steve have bailed me out of a couple of potentially weekend ruining episodes. This forum is the best. Cheers,
Mike

Glad ya got it sorted, Mike. The photo was confirmation you had the proper cable, the rest is just: "BTDT".
