We're finally dealing with the insurance company.
My Wife's car (2002 Mazda Protege) was wrecked,but still
drivable.
We're trying to decide which way to go.....
- Have the insurance company have it repaired,
- Take the money,buy the car back,sell it,& buy another,
- Take the money,keep the car,don't fix it.

Ideas?

The questions I'd ask are (1) how happy were you with the car, (2) what are the chances it will be fixed adequately, (3) what are the chances you could find another that you'd be happy with--mebbe you can see where I'm going with this. One of the sad things about smooshing an older, reliable car is that the insurance co will probably buy it off, then you perhaps can get a replacement for what they give you, but will it really be as good as the one you lost?

When my son whacked his older car a year ago, it probably cost as much to fix it as the thing was worth. But it was a good, reliable car, only needed a door, so we did it. Didn't paint the door though, so now he has a beige car with a maroon driver's side door. Looks really ghetto, actually kinda cool in a perverse way.
