Thing looks like a great-giant manta ray!

I want to see how they figure out how to get people to sit in the outside wing seats without getting motion sickness in a turn. I seem to remember something about changing the flight characteristics so that it would make flat turns. Still, turbulence would be interesting.

Its a Boeing 797(1000 seat) blended wing aircraft. It has been developed by Boeing in cooperation with NASA langley research centre. Wing span 265 ft (747 is 211 ft). Blended wing design lift to drag ratio is expected to increase by 50% with an overall weight reduction of 25% making it 33% more efficient than the airbus A380.High body rigidity is another factor, it reduces stress and turbulence on the airframe which adds efficiency and is said to give the 797 an 8800 nautical mile range with its 1000 passengers flying comfortably at mach .88 or654mph cruising speed over the A380's 570mph

WOOF!!! Neat!

... but I *KNOW* that ain't NASA's part of Langley "Field" inna background. No golf course. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wazzamattawityew?!?! I've PLAYED that course many times! It's quite nice, actually! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Looks real to me William. Boeing in Seattle is counting on it as well.

I'm a terrible flier. I HATE to fly. I do it, because it's geographically impossible to drive to a lot of places I want to go. Actually, I'm not afraid of flying. I'm afraid of dying in a mangled, melted mass of metal. That sucker will never have my name on the passenger list. Things that big shouldn't - ugh, just UGH!

I don't hate to fly (but I worked for Boeing in Toronto)and I am not afraid of dying when my time comes BUT I wouldn't want to be up there when it's the pilots time to go. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

And "Top Gear" has proven time and time again, that if a car can get there, it can get there faster than anything else... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well, I don't think they've raced against a commercial airliner yet....

I think they did try that a while back- I think they raced either a Bugatti or one of the more exclusive Ferraris against a plane.

As I recall, they started from central London and handicapped the airline traveller by making him get to the airport....

Rats... "PhotoShopped" again.

The only Air plane race I remember was the Bugatti Veyron vs. private aircraft from Northern Italy to London. The private air craft was a Cessna, and the pilot was James May. Unfortunately, James May didn't have the qualifications for night flying, so they had to finish their trip by taking the train accross the channel. The Bugatti won that race.

However, I still don't recall them racing against any commercial airliners... If they did/do, I bet they'll start and end the race no where near an airport, and not allow the non-car team to take taxi cabs... like normal.

They raced a Ferrari F612 Scaglietti against a commercial plane (and busses) in episode 8 of series 5. See this link for a great episode guide:

https://espnsti.in2hosting.org/Top_Gear_Episodes.htm

It wasn't airport to airport, but studio to the destination (ski place in south Europe, I think, haven't seen that one in a while). Hammond and May had to use only public transport, so no taxis.

hmmmm... I'm gonna have to go through my library and look at that one again...

For some reason I don't recall there being any planes involved, and ...

oh... wait.. I'm thinking of the Aston Martin race, where they raced against the super fast train through France, and the French police kept pulling along side Jeremy on the freeways and telling him to go faster... heh
