A friend of mine just bought a one owner Lotus exige with a modified engine. We went for a ride and he asked, "Are you ready?", then he punched it and I was literally slammed into the seat. By far the fastest accelerating 1.8 liter four banger car I have ever ridden in. With the mods, his engine is 300+hp

Then we came back and looked at my progress on the TR6, which I am hoping to get 125HP out of. I was a little depressed thinking of how many hours and dollars I have put into a 36 year old car. That is until we started talking about the cost to maintain the Lotus. Wow, $600 for a smog test, and it went on...

I will keep my lump and eventually enjoy its throaty roar over the whine of the turbo...

My wife will be happier too...
 
I have been a Lotus fan ever since I had an Elan Sprint as a daily driver. When I looked at getting into this hobby, my first thought was a Lotus, then I realized that tickets would be waiting if I headed down that path. I got my TR4 (also had one as a daily driver back in the day) and haven't had any pangs about its lack of speed compared to today's cars.

I have since cracked and bought a Saab 9-5 as a daily driver. It's not in Lotus territory, but floor it as the turbo comes online and the mid range torque pushes you deep into the seat. Also, it is safer and more comfortable. Hello Officer, how are you today...
