I think I'll check my spin-on today (Tourist Trophy from TRF) to see if it is loose.

For the next oil change, I am going to try a K&N filter, which has has a 1-inch nut with the safety wire hole drilled through. It was advertised for racers, but it might add an extra piece of mind.
 
Saftey wire on a regular filter can be made by installing a hose clamp around the filter and attaching a wire to the clamp.

Sounds a lot like the time my husband bought a mercury capri. He wouldnt even test drive the car even though I begged him. He said for $1000, it didnt matter. Apparently the owner drove it there a few hours ago as a trade in, so they hadnt even inspected it yet. After everything was paid for and signed we got in the car and it wouldnt start. They jump started it for us, but as soon as they unhooked it the car died. They did this about 3 more times before swapping in a test battery. Same thing.

Being the lady that I am, I got down on the ground and asked about this rubber string dangling from the engine. Sure enough it was the belt!!! Since they were closing up, they pushed the car outside their gates while we with to autozone. We ended up replacing the belt with only the light from my mustangs headlights.

Modern day women dont wear panty hose.
