World's Worst Cars....

I made my weekly trip to Barnes and Noble to find something new to read (I try to read a book a week, mostly non-fiction, but did enjoy The Da Vinci Code) and stumbled across a little piece of trash called "The World's Worst Cars". You would know that three of the top 50 were Triumphs. The Mayflower, Stag and TR7. Sorry guys, but what does he know. The guy also included the Yugo along with the Porsche Cayenne, for different reasons. I didn't buy the book.

Sounds like a British book. The Mayflower was bad, but not legendary. The Stag just had overheating problems, but otherwise was a splendid car. The TR7, I can think of why the original coupe was listed, but the later roadsters were actually pretty good all-around sports cars.

I can think of 50 worse cars than a TR7.

My friend's fiancee bought it, we read it on the way to Carlisle. Complete garbage. It had things in there like the Ford Explorer (because of the Firestone fiasco), the Triumph Acclaim (not because it was a bad car, but because it was a rebadged Honda that should have been under a different BL marque), Porsche Cayenne (because it's a more luxurious VW Toureag), etc. And besides, it didn't even list the MGB. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Opinions are like certain backside orfices. Everybodys got a different one and some of them stink!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I saw it too. They included the Lexus SC430 too. THat was a surprise. They really slammed a lot of infamous English cars. The Eastern block cars were neat. A good read for a half hour on my lunch break...

From what I'm reading, it appears this book is not written by real automotive historians (or even "car guys.") These types of books always seem to be written by people who know very little about real car history or technology.

There are some pretty miserable cars, some pretty ugly cars, and pretty great cars that were also miserable. A book of "worst cars" doesn't need to tell you things you already know.

If a Lexus SC430 is in there, that's just a joke. While I don't like the looks of the car, it's a pretty fantastic vehicle. (And I know plenty of people who think it's really pretty.)
