WOOT! 2fer fix!

I have been plagued for a couple of years with a bouncing vacuum gauge needle at all engine loads and rpm. I have also been plagued with a crappy, rough, inconsistent idle. As I rebuilt my engine a few years back, I was certain that I either messed up the rebuild, or melted something down with my on-going fuel injection and spark control experiments.

Well this weekend, I re-designed my oil catch can, ran some sea-foam through the intake and poured a little sea-foam in the oil... and shazam! I know have a rock solid vacuum needle and a smooth, lean, consistent low idle.

It may turn out to be a 3fer or even 4fer fix. It seems that my issue with low oil pressure at idle after a long run on the highway may be improving. We'll see if my poor fuel mileage will improve.

Who would have thought that sucking oil into the intake could cause so many problems? :wall:

SEA FOAM Motor Treatment is a 100% pure petroleum product that safely and effectively cleans internal fuel and oil system components, helping your gasoline or diesel engine run cleaner and more efficiently. SEA FOAM is an EPA-registered product, and will not harm engine components, seals, gaskets, catalytic converters or oxygen sensors.

SEA FOAM liquefies gum and varnish deposits or internal engine components, removing carbon deposits, freeing sticky valve lifters and rings curing rough idle, pinging and hesitation problems. By using SEA FOAM to eliminate varnish and carbon buildup, mechanics can more accurately diagnose mechanical problems that may exist. That is why Sea Foam has been so popular with professional mechanics for over 65 years.

As a fuel system additive, Sea Foam will clean fuel injectors, clean carbon, gum and varnish deposits, add lubricity to fuel, stabilize fuel for 2 years and control moisture.

As an oil system additive, Sea Foam controls moisture, gum, varnish and residue deposits.

I've been running SeaFoam through my gas powered toys for years, never tried it in oil though.

Believe me, this is not the first time I have tried the Sea Foam treatment. It was fixing my bad catch can design that did the trick. Sea Foam can only do so much when you are continually sucking oil into the intake.

I've got my 1098's rocker cover going straight to the air filter can (as per OEM) but I notice it's pretty oily in there, not horrible but some, guess it's good there's a filter there.
Previous to refitting the SUs I had that hose going straight into the Pierce intake below the Weber, I can only imagine it was oiling the gas somewhat. I have a catch can but never hooked it up as in the process I used the mech fuel pump opening as another breather and that seemed to stop the draft tube from leaking (I'm pretty sure I'm down to a leak on the spin on oil filter adapter mess).

Forgot what my point was....aimless bored Monday ramble I guess. Carry on.
