Woops! need another measurement

Hey gang,
This time, I'm looking at the inner distance between the inner fenders at the top, just behind the shut pillars. I' assuming that the inner fenders are verticle, so the measurement should be 51 1/2" across. Just wanted to make sure before I commit to something I'll have to undo later. Thanks again.

P.S. Any 6 cylinder car should do.

My BJ7 measures 51 inches… What does your rear shroud that fits between the shut pillars measure?

Hi Big6,
Thanks, mine (inside inner fenders) is 50 3/4". I got 51" between the inside of the shrouds, but the shroud is slightly bent there. Need to do a little straightening. It's kind of weird that the inner fenders aren't verticle, they seem to tilt inward the higher up the car you go. A friend measured the same as I had today.

I have my BJ7 level on a frame jig. Using a Craftsman magnetic base protractor on the inner fender on both sides indicates 90 degrees.

I welded the three main sections to a Jule frame. While Martin was at my house delivering the new frame, he provided me with some critical dimensions. One concern is the angle of the shut pillar. It needs to be located at 70 degrees. The main three section assemblies start from the rear installing towards the front. I have other critical dimensions from Martin if interested.

Greg, as i explained i do have a slight issue with my r/s door closing and gaps that's why i have'nt taken any measurements from my own bj7 for you, im just waiting to see how this situation your having plays out, eBay very often has new left and right shut pillars for bj7-bj8 for sale for about $40.00 plus shipping just thought you'd like to know in case you dont find it a reasonable endeavor to rebuild the ones you have, ill be watching this subject. :savewave:

That's interesting. On the frame diagram in the shop manual, the sill outer dimension is 51½" at the rear outriggers. At the very back of the sill, where it attaches to the wheel well, it would be slightly more.

Good news there, I've measured 70.2 degrees, I'll round down and call it good.

Thanks, I may be begging for more.

Hi Anthony,
The pillars, both front and rear are new Kilmartin, they are in fine shape, it's just that little cap piece on top that I needed to make. I've seen the shut pillars sold with the cap installed, but these weren't one of them.

Yes, the inner sill assembly at the furthermost end after the rear outrigger measures 51 ½ inches. The sill tapers to 48 ¾ inches at the front outrigger. The point at which the shut pillar attaches to the inner sill assembly is at 51 inches. On second closer measurement it appears to be 51 1/8 inches. Using tolerances of +- 1/16 inch as indicated in the workshop manual the measurement is accurate.
