The earliest car I've ever seen in action is this 1898 Beeston, I saw it a small British car show just north of Toronto in about 2001... Admittedly this particular car is a mix of car and bicycle, but that's the way it was in the very early days, and I did see this car actually move under it's own power... And it's a prototype (one of two) that never made production in case you're wondering...
