Don't know how it happened but there is a crack from the left side going across the registation sticker. This stinks. It's one of the few spares I do not have.

Which car?

(Neighbor left his Honda out in the sun all week. It was 77 degrees two days ago, then dropped to 26 overnight. )

surprise! crack in the windshield!

Tom

My 74 b. I left it out Friday night while I was straightneing things up in the Garage and the crack was there when I woke up.

I feel your pain. My 75 was parked in the garage and the on a friday night it was fine got up in the morning huge crack on the right side. No signs of any impacts.

Bummer !! Ya just never know about glass.

I was on a construcion site in Maryland, 105*F summer
temp, talking standing next to late model black pickup
with the windows all rolled up.

The truck's owner leaned against his hood and driver's
door window blew up and showered us both with tiny cubes
of glass.

It seems this is not all that uncommon.

I called Hagerty and they will cut me a check for it but it's not much compared to the horror stories I have heard. They refered it to Safelite Auto Glass who gave them a quote but Safelite stated it might be more if it needs special rubber parts. I'm not ready to do it until next winter when I'm thinking it might be time for the body. Hagerty said since I am not ready now, keep the check and when I am ready to do it let them know if it is more when Safelite comes and does it.

I've heard stories but how bad is it really to replace?

when it comes to windshields..I'd rather pull my wisdoms again...I'll do most anything but I take the windshield work to a reputable installer...most will do the work for a reasonable price if your providing all the parts required...they have the tools and the tricks of the trade!!

My wisdoms took 20 minutes for all 4 and at the same time. Maybe I'll ahve luck with it.

Something I've always wondered about insurance claims on "classics".

Do you choose who does the work?

Just about any shop can do my 2000 Mazda's windshield. But I sure wouldn't let Shifty Lester's Auto Glass and Carwash replace the windscreen on my TR3.

Tom

They just used Safelite for the quote. I can do it myself or take in anywhere I like. We'll see when I get that step. First my trans problem needs to be addressed.

I've said before: I'd rather do three MGB clutch R&R's than one windshield replacement...

YMMV, but that's my opinion.

let me reiterate "reputable"...my 911 glass and perts came to nearly $500.00 a great installer here in town charged me $100 to install with installation warranty a small price to pay for such an investment...just my opinion.

doc I hear ya <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]I'd rather do three MGB clutch R&R's [/QUOTE]

matter of fact I did...matter of fact same clutch...matter of fact same car...as they say third time was a charm!

I've done windscreens in TR3-4-250-6s and MGBs. the TR4 thru 6 is the easiest. the TR3 isen't too bad. the MGB was miserable.

moss triplex glass!!!!! Used it on my 75 and it fit perfect and is a much higher quality than the other aftermarket and hagerty will pay for the windshield, gasket and 6.5 hours of labor at 35 an hour.

the hour estimate is about right for a first time install

Not only will they pay for the new glass, but if you desire, Hagerty will pay you to install your own glass. They'll cut you a check for the going rate pr hr and length of time estimated, which they get from a local installer. They also don't think Triplex is expensive!

I feel your pain... The windshield in my project Stag mysteriously got broken! It almost looks like someone shot it. Here's the kicker tho, it's sitting behind a locked 7' privacy fence. A crack I could understand but this car hasn't been on the road since '91. Just another thing to replace when I get around to restoring it. Bad thing is it's a pain to find new a one in the US. :nonod:
