Well, I am spending my Memorial Day holiday re-pulling the gearbox out of my TR6. Would have been a great day to drop the top and cruise over to New Orleans, have a cappuchino at the Rue de la Course coffee house and read the Times Picayune. No, I am covered with oil and sending the NEW overdrive back to the vendor to MAKE IT WORK!
On a happier note, my friend Dave Hayden over in Erath, La. called me last night and wants to show me his '73 Lotus Europa which he has up and running. This is his 17th LBC and he says his last. I don't believe him.
Ya'll enjoy the holiday....

I can't stand when it's gorgeous out, and the car is inoperable. That's why I keep getting more cars! Probabilities state at least one will be working in the event of a sunny day.

Luckily, today was a really disgusting, rainy day (and I have a cold -cough cough,) so I didn't feel bad ripping the headers off my '69 Corvette in preparation for a new exhaust system.

One of our club members built a simple ficture to benchtest an OD tranny. I would suggest this might be an answer to your grief. A 1/2 hp electric motor with a small pully, mount a larger pully to the input shaft so that you can make appx 1500 1800 rpm .Hit the solenoid with 12 volts and you should be able to see the beast shift, If you can rig a speedo even nicer. Somebody has to more or less sit on the tranny, but as long as hes not too drunk its pretty safe.

Thanks for the info, Mad Dog, but the tranny in somewhere enroute to the Land of Steady Habits, i.e., the Nutmeg State. heck, I am getting so good at pulling this baby out that I can do it from interior out to transmission on the ground in 90 minutes flat. The vendor will make it right...

Oh man, I remember those days... it being sunny and 30 degress Celsius out, and me toiling on another spitfire clutch/overdrive problem... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif
Hope you get your baby back together soon to enjoy some nice weather...

Hey Sammy -

Great parking job on the TR7! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dr. Bill, my continuing Jtype saga continues with a slightly positive note. The vendor, with whom you are well-acquainted, mailed me a replacement solenoid which I'll install next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's a real pain to do major repairs in good driving weather. I'm faced with a paint job and a total rewire this summer, can't wait to get it done.

Good luck with the gearbox, I'm sure it will be done properly this time.
