wiring question semi-OD related

I was going to use the OD stalk switch in my '74 to send power to a relay for foglights.

I notice that it takes its power from the alternator light. Since my engine is out, I put power to that terminal on the alt connector and get only ~6V out at the yellow wire both in the column connector and under the hood. The white wire in the column connector is also 6v.

Is it possible that I am getting a strange result with the wiring diconnected? Also, when the alt light goes out, how does current flow to the OD wire?

Thanks

No, the OD switch gets power from the white wire circuit, not the alt light. The easy way to wire the relay so the stalk switch energized the coil would be to use the yellow wire in the engine compartment near the fuse block, down there where the main harness hooks to the rear harness. There should be 12 volts on that wire when you throw the OD stalk switch.
