I have to state up front that I'm not familiar with Spitfire wiring, but all LBCs are cut from the same cloth in that regard. So...
The main thing is to make sure all connections are clean, tight, and permanent. It's that third term where the problem lies, in many cases. It's easy to clean the wire and connector, but if it corrodes again, or it just isn't a good connector, it fails. Some people put grease on the connections to prevent corrosion, and I guess it works, but it doesn't seem like the best solution to me.
I have replaced a lot of crimped connections with soldered ones in my Bugeye Sprite. I've also used more modern connectors than the original ones. I'm not anywhere near finished this yet, but in time I plan to replace as many of those bullet connectors as I can with modern connectors. There are a couple places where a bunch of bullet connectors could be replaced by a pair of multipin connectors, with wires soldered in the connectors.
It's also worth looking at the places where the wires terminate (instruments, lights, and so on) and see if there is something that can be done to make the connections more reliable.
Finally, installing relays is worthwhile, as a connection that carries less current is going to be less sensitive to imperfection. The switches last longer, too.
