The engine and transmission are out. And I spent saturday removing the brake/master etc. The only thing left is the heater box. The wiring harness is really grimey, any suggestions/products for cleaning the harness?

You can purchase the #m tape in the proper color from most Lowes stores it is sticky tape the original tape which is not sticky is available from Moss and other distributors I cleaned mine with purple power and then rerapped it looks brand new.

Thanks guys, I thought since the bay will be in high gloss black, then maybe the wiring could be wrapped in a black finish/tape of some sort. Remember, original it ain't, and I'd like the wiring to fade into the background so the v6 really stands out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If that is what you want, just use black 3M tape!! (make srue it is good tape!!) Or one step better may be to go to the black corrugated tubing at your local parts store!! Wrap it with black tape and slip the tubing over and it will look like a million bucks!!

that corrugated tubing or even better plastic spiral wrap can be found at Home depot type stores or even better electrical supply houses in all kinds of colors and usually it's cheaper

Hello Bryan,
For me, the spiral wrap or the slit corrugated tubing is fine for industrial use but looks completely wrong in a car. It is very easy to re-wrap the loom but do not use adhesive tape. It is much more difficult to wrap, get the non adhesive loom tape and it will look like new and be neat. You need a small wrap of adhesive tape to finish the ends.

if you just want to clean up your existing tape, fingernail polish remover does an really nice job...I prefer the non-acetone solution myself ;-) ...just put a little bit on a cotton ball and wipe the grime off!

A thought too, since you've got it all apart and are in the process of cleaning, etc - clean the connectors with a decent cleaner like LPS electrical contact cleaner, or something similar, then use a dialectric grease on the connectors to keep them from getting dirty or corroding further down the road.

Shame on me, I "discovered" that good old gasoline cleans the wires up beautifully. It must be safe, because there is no warning about using gas around electrical connections on the car. (I hope I disconnected the battery)

Those plastic cable ties help keep the wire loom tight for wrapping, and hold down things that screw or bolt to the firewall and inner fenders keep the wires neat and in place.

There's also split-plastic wire-loom available from rod shops (in assorted colors and sizes no less) that works pretty well unless you're wanting to stay original with the tape.

Thanks again for everyones suggestions,I like the rod shop idea especially.I've got a source here in town.BR

I never did like the look of that blue wiring harness tape anyway . . . or maybe I've just seen too many redone badly.

I'd use the black cloth tape available from British Wiring

Really nice stuff.
