TR6 Wiring harness/ dash bulbs

I am working on a TR6 wiring harness bought from Moss 4 years or so ago. I am having trouble with the screw in type bulbs. The bulb holder is a cylinder with two opposing grooves that are supposed to provide the grooves to thread the bulb into. Problem is that they aren't working. Tech at Moss sent me some of their bulbs that "might"be a bit smaller. I got a couple in but once in they are able to pop back out with a little jostling. As these harnesses have been out there for several years, I am asking if anybody else has a "fix" for this.
I found that the bulb thread is about the same as a 3/8" course thread. I tried improving the grooves with both a bolt and a tap. This gave me no improvement.
Any ideas? The only other option I have seen is cutting off all of the bulb holders and using the ones from the old harness.
