wiring fun

I'm against a wall here fellas. New harness being installed, by me and another much more experienced person, little brother. In the final test phase now and the turn signal indicators on the dash of the '67 roadster don't light up or blink at all. Directionals work fine flashers too. Put a tester into the socket and it blinks just like it should. Take the working bulb out of the socket by the fuel gauge or any new bulb and it won't even light up much less blink. We've got great grounds, all lights work fine, both dash and exterior.Hazards work fine.
Before the new harness the indicators would flash strongly once, then a little dimmer then after four flashes it would stop. Always figured bad ground, but now not so sure.
What say the wizards. Oh yeah the bulbs are good.
Thanks, Mike

Grounds are excellent, bulbs are 171-000 from Moss. Couldn't find bulbs specifically listed as directional bulbs, please tell me it's just the wrong bulb.

Is it the right flasher unit?

Sounds like the flasher was goin' away before you rewired. And a '67 never had a hazard flasher that I'm aware of. If that's in the circuit, I'd be for removing it and get the signals working without it first.

Sorry about that, it's a brand new harness with relays, so the flasher is on the new board. Not using the old turn signal flasher, you're right Doc no original flasher. It's one of Dan Master's Power Blocks, and I also sent him the message, but I wanted to get an answer as fast as possible. I think this may be a question that deals more with MGB's than electricity if you know what I mean. The only thing not working properly is the inside turn signal indicators on the dash. It was late and I figgered youse guys were around, I knew Dan wasn't checking his emails at that time of night, he's been calling to check my progress, but this happened at "final test" time.

Ah. That now makes sense.

If the bulb holder in the dash is grounded (and I can't see how it wouldn't be if you have functioning instruments and lights) the prob would HAVE to be in the supply side of the indicators. I'm not familiar with Dan's harness, so can be of no help.

I'm sure he'll be able to walk thru it, tho.

Keep in mind that the pilot lights are a separate circuit from the exterior lamps. The 'W' from the flasher unit must also send a signal. Also if you bought a new flasher unit lately it is most likely garbage. Anywho , the turn signal switch completes a hot circuit to the exterior lamps and grounds the pilots. (IIRC)

The signal lamps are supposed to ground through contact with the metal housing that they plug into. You may need to run a ground wire from around one of the housings to a better ground point to help complete the circuit. That or play with the spring clips on the lamp housing to get them to contact the metal better.
