Wireless

I finally figured out how to be on the forum and still work on my MG. I went wireless, now I can be in the shop and still have internet. This is about MGs, so I posted here. Cost--$55 at Radio Shack. Now I can be under the hood and still participate. Sorta like going topless but without the hooters.

Only way to fly!

I've been wireless for some time now with Verizon Broadband am able to surf the web just about anywhere & stay connected to all things BFC.

It also helps with my work too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Welocme to the wireless world...I use Linksys

Same here Rob. But my Tosh Celeryon took a dump a month ago, so now I'm "tether'd" again 'till I get a replacement.

Just watch out for 2.4 ghz cordless phones. Mine wreaks havoc on my wireless PCs: sporadic connectivity and lost connections.

Other than that, wireless is good stuff!

Always been a Linksys guy myself. When surfing the web I prefer sitting in the living room with my laptop to sitting in the office on the desktop.

& I've got Skype also so I can use my computer in the garage to contact experts when I run into a problem!

Linksys as well, but had not thought of useing it in garage. Got it so wife could use a computer in another room when I was busy on line. This machine is hard wired for speed.

I'm using a DLink wireless router and a laptop with a DLink wireless USB adapter (the laptop is about 3 years old, just before integrated wireless was a standard feature). It's good to have as many of your wireless devices made by the same manufacturer so if/when you have set-up or connection problems they can trouble shoot the whole system better.

Also have a wireless keyboard and mouse on the main 'puter which don't change the way I work very much but gives some freedom for moving around.

Cheers,
John

I use Lynksys too. I really did it for X Box Live, I don't even have a lap top.

room mates are uing brand X for their wireless routers and their laptops have built-in wireless NICs. I have a 2.4GHz cordless phone and can confirm signal problems whenever I pick that dang thing up... I may break down and get a different one some time... or just switch over to one of the many corded phones I have laying around somewhere...

<THUD!>

FOUND ONE!

I don't have any wireless PCs personally... I kind of like having my giga-bit connection to my LAN server too much to go with anything slower... then again, I'm constantly moving 4+GB of data across the LAN to and from my server...

room mates only stream pre-recorded videos and surf the web on the wireless part so it's more than enough for them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've a Commercial Artist here who does th' same thing. Graphics files are heavy beasties. I just use the wireless for lyin' out inna hammock, messin' about onna 'net. Shop or shed, I can get online. If I can't ressurect the Toshiba, I'll be beatin' another Linux kernel into submission on that ThunkPod soon.

I like to keep at least one PC wired as well. I do it for troubleshooting purposes though: One less step to have to worry about when the router ( it's a router not a rooter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif ) decides to have a psychotic break with the cable modem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Tony.

Can you elaborate ( either here or by PM ) on your experience with Skype and your setup, etc. I've been looking at going with it since I've got a few friends in the U.K. who I call on a regular basis .
