I am attaching a picture fo the parts B we just picked up...for those of you who have seen the wheels on our other B..you know they need replacing.
I have heard some horror stories about trying to swap these out...do I have to swap the rear ends?
They do hold air quite well (or at least they have for the last 48 hours)
There is some surface rust but all of the spoke are strong and do not seem to have any play or weakness in them.
Suggestions?
(the other picture is the cows that stood and watched while we pulled this thing out of the field)

Well, I'd have to say that mine look worse and I drive the car weekly. Are those chromed or just chrome paint? I just started cleaning mine starting with the spare. Inspected the spokes, took a wire brush to the loose rust and some POR to the rest. I will start spraying after Thanksgiving. I would suggest however, that if you have any question at all about the safety of those babies, have them inspected by a reliable shop that know what they're doing.
 
They appear to be just painted. I really won't know until we get them off and begin wire brushing them. It came with two spare rims so I fugured maybe I'd start there.
We have one week to get the "heap" out of the garage so It will be a little bit before I actually get to tear into them.
We have a lot of regret that this one will never see the streets again and is on its way to the scrap yard, but it is giving its life to save others! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif
 
Rostyles to wires: Switch the front hubs & you're good to go there....swap out the entire rear end & you're good to go there....swap out the 2 emergency brake cables & you're finished!
 
Just a hint. If your going to junk the left over body, see if anyone wants it to make a trailer out of the rear end. Could recoup a few bucks. I made that mistake when I junked a smashed up one. The rear part was perfect. Oh well, hind sight is 20/20. I think they look sharp. PJ
 
That's a cool idea..but I don't know if it would even work as that. It is so rusted out I'm afraid when I remove the seats the car is going to just sag in half. The rockers are non-existent, nothing under either door, bondo flying off both rear wheel wells as we drove it down the highway (You think I'm kidding..we had to tarp it for fear the rusted parts flying off as we traveled home with it would break off and bust out someone's windshield)
Pretty much, its all just trim, trim, trim....then off to the scrapyard. Sad isn't it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
 
It's really sad when they get to a non restorative state. At least your saving everything usable. That will help restore another one.
 
I scrapped a midget that was in simular cond, About 200lbs of rat residue. What a mess. The car had the magic block the racers want. Cut the body in half and took to the scrap yard in the back of my pickup. My 16 yr old at the time picked up the nickname "Saws" because of his use of the reciprical saw. Car sat in the drive less than 24 hrs. Memories.
 
My boys named this one Rusty cause that's all it is. Tomorrow is its final day. Hope the weather holds.
