There's a special set out on ebay right this moment that are Dealer Option Daytons with gold spokes...they actually look pretty nice...not sure what your exterior colors are but on the right car they would sparkle...price is pretty decent as well 4 wheels, tires, lugs and caps....I think they were under Parts search Jaguarfor BIN $1000,00.

just my opinion, but wire wheels with lugnuts just don't look right in the XJ-6 body or in any car for that matter, they look "faky", not to mention that any wire wheels are a PITA to keep sparkling! Plan on spending an entire day per wheel just to detail them. I know about that, my '65 S type has chromed wires with spinners, and it's an EXhausting job to clean them.
Also, there are other styles of Jaguar wheels for the period of your Jaguar, other than the ugly "Kent" style wheels that they came with originally. And as you know already, wires become loose and they also leak. Just read some of the threads about wires here.
Again, just my opinion, it's your party and you can cry if you want to!

Well, I have this set of 5 Dayton's at a good price - plain chrome, Bibber - & they're just sitting in my garage...all I really need is the center caps.

Go with the Daytons. I have 60 spokers on my XJS, and have since new. They look great, and have lasted OK. The 70 spokers are more common, but they look a little busier. It is hard to find the 3 ear knockoffs with the Jag logo, but they show up on Ebay from time to time. The other wheels that look great on series 3s(in my opinion anyway) are the 89 and later XJS lattice wheels.
