wire wheel repair

Hi All,

I have a tr-3 1957 with wire wheels and one of them is bent so bad it cannot be balanced. Can these rims be straightened and does anyone have a place close to NJ that would do a good job?

Thanks,
captainde

If you do a search here on bent wheels, you'll find that there's not many success stories.

Some folks try it, but they're not usually very happy with the results. Straightening a badly bent wheel actually weakens the wheel, plus, a partially-straightened wire wheel would be *really* tough to tune.

My 2¢ - if you want to drive the car, you're better off with new wheels.

Not in NJ, but these guys have a good reputation:
Hendrix

Shipping one wheel is probably $20 each way as a ballpark.

I was also going to recommend Hendrix. Unfortunately they're not in NJ but Greensboro, NC about an hour west of where I am.

Hard to imagine you can get a WW relaced for much less money than they go for new (when on sale). Also, if yours are 48-spoke you will likely be happier with the 60-spoke which typically cost no more.
