Were the wire wheel hubs painted? I don't think that they were.
Although my splines are fine & the rotors mic to a good thickness. the centers look kind of rusty & you can see it through the wire wheels.
Does anyone paint them? I was thinking black or silver.
Mine were black and rust. I painted them silver, and they came out pretty nice. The attachment pic isn't too good. The rims are covered with a lot of sandblasting dust.
Rick
You're talking the hubs themselves? I wash mine in the parts washer & then clean them with an 'orange' plastic disc in my drill press...I buy the discs at Harbor Freight...they're flexible & don't hurt the metal but will remove all that surface rust....heck, I can stick my fingers in the spinning disc & not get hurt!
Here's a photo of a rostyle hub that I cleaned that way:
We're talking hubs, not brake drums, correct? I've always left my hubs bare and put a thin coat of grease on them when I grease the splines. You could certainly paint them but don't paint the splines themselves. Here's a pic just for kicks.
I painted the cast area of the rotor black along with the calipers black. Silver looks very good but had concerns with the effect of brake dust and road grime build up since they are not easy to get to for cleaning. The grime might be a non-issue but that's what I decided to do anyway. With the wheel on, you only see a little bit of the hub where it attaches to the rotor. Here's a picture of the rotor/hub ..
and see the attachment for an image with the wheel installed
