Wire Harness tape question

Working on the Vauxhall's wire harness - and stripped the entire cover off to check all the wire (glad I did BTW)

Putting it back together, I have considered pre made harness covers but am currently leaning toward simply re-taping, partly for originality and partly because it may actually be easier to get over/around plugs and junctions and spots where other wire split off.

So, has any one used self-fusing silicone tape? it is not the normal harness cover I know but, it is heat resistant, abrasion resistant and waterproof and, seals to itself - seems like a win all the way around.

any thoughts?

JP, Don,t know about your tape, but the only problem I and others have found with self sealing tape is the mastic on them usually slips when hot, the tape holds up but the mastic doesn't. That's why British wiring tape, usually Blue in color, has no mastic on it. I would test a piece and see. PJ

Maybe a non-issue for your purpose, but once that tape is wound around and is stuck to itself, seems that harness would be very "stiff".

thanks for both of these thoughts - keep them coming!
