Wiper direction

I just put the wipers back together On my BJ7 after sitting on a bench for 10 year. Only problem is now they want to wipe down across the hood instead of up across the windshield. Do I just have to flip the limit switch 180 degrees?

You have to loosen the 3 clamping screws and rotate the top cap until you get park in the right place.

Unfortunately not because it’s wiping in the wrong direction, down not up.

That's because the splined shafts are approximately 180 degrees out.

Try rotating the top cap 180 degrees, remove the arms, operate through a couple of cycles, turning it off and allowing to park, reinstall wiper arms.

Repeat process, moving top cap, until you've got the splined shafts in the correct position.
 
Bob, you are correct - A senior dyslexic moment. I apologize to all for getting it backwards and have deleted my earlier post. (I just checked and mine is backwards :eek:)

It is a super-good idea to make sure one's wipers run and park in the correct spot before installing the unit in the car! Ask me how I know.

Having said that, it was possible - just - to loosen two of the three clamping screws enough to rotate the cap with the wiper installed in the car.

I had my wipers rebuilt by one of the usual suppliers (no names) and he re-assembled the unit without testing it. First, it didn't run at all, then the park was in the wrong place. I fixed the former on the bench - the brush unit had fallen off to one side inside on assembly - fortunately I found a YouTube video explaining this. Second, the park was in the wrong place and I had to fix that in the car after I'd installed the wiring harness and gauges.

I couldn't agree more. This was a very embarrassing moment for me this morning because I actually went out and checked what mine did before I posted the bad info, not taking the time to think it through. I, however, I was luckier that you Steve because mine still doesn't have the shroud on so it was easy remove the mounting nuts and move the motor enough to loosen the small clamping screws and rotate the cap to the right location. Problem is the mechanic that had it timed wrong in this case was me!
