Just doing a little cleaning on Baby Blue tonight and I decided to replace the wiper blades. I picked up a set from VB, but when I put them on, there was very excessive lateral play in the blades. They did not fit anywhere near as snug as the ones currently on the car:

You can see the difference in the mounting points. Original is on top, VB is on bottom:

Am I missing something here? No matter what it tried, the new ones had so much play that they're likely to fly off if I tried them. I do know the best wiper blades for an LBC is a good coat of Rain X, but I would like these puppies to work.

I was thinking of going in that direction as well. I know once upon a time, you used to be able to only replace the rubber part.
 
I did swap the new rubber with the old blade on the first of the three wipers. So far, so good.
 
I thought the rubber on these was meant to protect the windshield from scratching, you actually use them for water removal?
 
Very rarely. I discovered the wipers seem to spread the water rather than remove it.
