I'm fairly new to the forum and I haven't used it much. I'd like to avail myself of the vast knowledge and information that is out there. If I'm a little thin skinned about a lame attempt at humor or blatant sarcasm please bear with me until I've had enough time to digest what the levels are that I might expect when posting a problem.
Thanks for that elrey. My bad. Shows you what trouble a guy can get into with limited knowledge of terminology. Never would have dreamed that term would apply to a fuel sending unit. I was and continue to get really good help when I've asked for it. My apologies for the over reaction.
Rossco, this place ain't like any other forum you've been to. If someone is bein' sarcastic, you'll KNOW it.
These guys just ain't that subtle.
Inside the unit is a "wiper arm" with a contact on the end which runs in an arc in contact with a wire winding at varying places (depending on the fuel level/float arm position). A variable resistor of sorts, like a potentiometer (or "pot").
So... if one were to suggest sprayin' yer pot with Weasel Pee, I s'pose it would gather a bit of a funny look, too.
We're here to impart knowledge and learn. Nothin' more sinister than that, we promise.
Thanks, Doctor. Sometimes those of us stuck away in the hinterlands and away from the main pulse of this British car obsession we call a "hobby" are a little quick to "cop a chip". You guys are my key to the outside world and I appreciate you. And just a heads up: there will be more knuckle headed questions and comments from this end. Just consider the sourse.
