Wiper arm pressure?

Shirley and I went through a 10 minute rain shower (top down) on the way back from Iowa yesterday. Wipers worked good at city speeds but at highway speed they lost contact with the glass. The arms seem to have enough pressure and I am sure the question has been answered at one or more times but do I need new arms or just the springs, would it be something else, or are they just that way?
Other than to test if they ran or not this was the first time they were actually called upon for use in over 9,000 miles since we have had the car.
Thanks

did you get wet , hope not, in 3 years of owning my TR6 only got caught in a down pour once. went to a friends house for dinner, t boomers come rolling in, put the top up, forgot to close the scuttle vent, came out to floor mats full of water. dang it,,, driving home the windows fogged up but the wipers worked fine at 45 mph
