Wing/fender chrome side flashes

I am expecting a short answer to this one -

BJ8 is still in the bodyshop but due back in a couple of weeks.

Can the wing/fender chrome flashes be fitted whilst the wing is fitted to the car? Or do the bolts have to be undone and the wing removed?

Yes they can but you need a thin, flexible arm to do it. It would be easier to do with the wings off the car but they would then impede final buffing of the paint, if that's relevant.

Bill,
thanks for the reply.
That's the issue - they have been left off to ease with buffing of the paint. Think I need to visit the bodyshop to see if i can access the rear of the wing, or make them aware that the wing has to be removed again.

Make sure you have the fresh air ducting installed before the wings go on. I don't have a BJ8 but hear it's real bear to do it with the wings installed.

Leave them off, then visit your local body supplies place and buy some of the trim stick foam adhesive stuff . Apply it to the flashes you may need two layers due to the inset on the back of the flashes , leave the studs on for location . Stick em on ,,,,done

Shhhhhhhh I wont tell if you don't ....

Although I have installed the fender spears without removing the fenders, I do not recommend as flexing of the fender could risk cracking or chipping your new paint.

The only way I have found to install the spears with the fender on the car is by reaching up from the bottom of the fender. I did this by first applying painters tape to the fender and door edges, jacking up the front of the car sufficiently to partially slide under and by removing the bottom fender bolts and lower jam screws. I then inserted the spears and applied additional painters tape to hold it in place. By moving the fender bottom out sufficiently to insert my arm at the wheel well end, I reached up and applied the anchor nuts to the spears and tighten with a small ratchet wrench.

If you do decide to remove the fender, consider installing a bilge blower into the cold air duct to power your cold air flow.

Good luck,

not to hi-jack the thread...but, my flashes are on backwards. is it necessary to drill different hole locations to install in the wrong direction? i would just like to know before i go to all the trouble to remove them and reinstall and find out that i have extra mounting holes in the fender. and, especially if i have a hole exposed on the more narrow end... thanks

Shouldn't be a problem. The reason so many of them are put on backwards is they go on either way using the original holes.

i was hoping that was the case. now if i can get the behind the fenders nuts! thanks rick!

I installed mine after the wing was attached. It can be done.
ME TOO !!

Plus,Folks been doin it for years ain"t no big deal.

Certainly not worth pulling the wing to do

I still prefer my method , quicker , easier and saves me loosing skin of my arms and fingers etc .

removed the flashes and installed proper direction. thanks for the help.
