I picked up a spare windshield frame to polish up but it is missing the center rod. Moss list 2 types one very early and then the later type. This one does not have provisions for sun visors or the rear view mirror so would it be wrong to think that this is an early windshield?

Also how tight is the center rod setup?
 
Sounds to be the "early" one, Stew. Tighten it, but not "E-string" tight.


Workshop manual:
"Firmly fix the stabilising rod but on no account overtighten the centre domed securing nut."

No help.

Just so the rod is tight enough to keep the lower gasket compressed at about the same height as the sides at the pillars. I usually use the inside distance (from dash top to frame) as a guide. And I always fit a fibre spacer under the "foot" of the rod mount, too.
 
Does it show evidence of ever having pop rivets in it to hold visors?
 
No signs at all of ever having the fittings for the sun visors and the center rod fitting is different from the one on the 75 and 73. Kinda caught me off guard as it's "from" a 73.
 
Stewart, Coming off of a 73 really has no meaning at all. Simply because a lot of them were swapped over the years. Even the parts of the frame are interchangeable, which also could have happened. The top bar is from an early model where the mirror mounted on the rod. It's earlier than 1970, as they had sun visors, I think, but the rod mounted mirror. I like the polished frame.
