windshield disassembly

i pulled my windshield frame today
and im trying to get the glass out...
ive taken the screws outta the top and taken
the top edge off, but i cant figure out
how to get the bottom loose from the sides
so the glass will come free....
am i missing something? screw, etc....

also, should i try to salvage the seals
or are the new ones acceptable?
mine are usable but not great....thx..zimmmmy
 
There are screws under that body to frame seal.
 
Yep, what he said. Cut or pull your old seal out and you'll see 'em. Two on each side. Be carefull, they may be corroded. I had to use an impact screwdriver to get mine out. Don't round them out. You can beat on regular screwdriver while applying pressure and twisting to give pretty much the same effect. Beat it abit first, then beat and twist. The key to using a phillips head on old or tight screws is ALWAY apply more PUSH than TWIST.
 
I just went through this last week. There are two screws under the rubber seal on the bottom on both sides. My bottom seal looked great but you'll end up trashing to get the bottom screws out. Turn it over cut the rubber, do some PB Blaster in there and remove screws. Lubricate side channel with water or something and gently tap apart with rubber mallet. Then pull / chisel the seal out. It will get easily trashed.

My local LBC guy described needing 3 guys to put rubber seal back in place. I simply slipped in place with side off and left last 2-3" out. I trimmed to fit, put the side back on and stuffed the last 2-3" back in the channel. Looks great and fits well.

If replacing the side seals/Vent window don't trim off until windshiled is back on hte car. The side seal needs to meet up wit hthe top of the door. Reinstall windshield, pull seals flush with door and wait until top goes on to trim off the top.
 
Try tightening those screws first to loosen crud up, then loosen.
 
And use a Pozi-Drive bit (If ya have one). It works better than a Phillips head driver.
 
already done....im the first in there, so nothins stripped!
so, about the seals...moss or VB? ...z
 
I just bought both and both appear the same.

Now........there is someone on ebay that sells the glass and ALL the seals, windshield, lower and both stantions for $149 plus $23 shipping. I want to say it's $70+ or so for just the seals from VB or Moss. This is a Safevue glass and I'm don't know about quality. VB glass sucks. Moss' was "o.k", I mad it work. Triplex is best. If ebay guy will take returns I say go for it. Get measurements from ebay guy off of the exact windshield he's sending. I posted a thread a few pages back that gives Moss' dimentions. VB's is too small.
 
Use Vasoline and ratchet straps to put it back together. The seal soaks up everything so you have to keep applying vasoline, but not as much as if you used soap.......which is CORROSIVE !!!!!!!!
 
Vasoline is petroleum based which will dissolve the rubber. The most inert thing you can use is KY Jelly.
