Windshield center bracket

Cutlass

While assembling my BJ8 windshield, I have discovered that it is missing the center bracket, which attaches the bottom rail to the scuttle. As far as I can tell, this item is not available new. The Moss illustration is on page 122, item #15. This is part #AHB 9784 in the Mechanical Service Parts List. I can fabricate a part that will function, based on the miniscule drawing in the Parts List, or the Moss catalog, but would prefer to have at least a decent photo to go by. Anyone have such a photo, or at least have an idea of the material and finish used on the original? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jim

Hi Jim,
I won't be seeing my car for a few weeks, so I can't help with dimensions. Maybe give British Car Specialists a call. They have a "Rare and Hard to Find Parts" catalog, but they also have used parts. 209 948-8767.

Cutlass,
I believe I have an extra that you are welcome to for free (I will go out and chech the parts bins). Let me know. It may need replating as they were galvanized origionally. Thanks and have a good day!

Did you ever get a part for yours or do you have a picture/drawing that i could see as mine on my BJ7 is missing to !

John Progress has sent me one in the mail, probably to arrive Friday. I'd be glad to draw or photograph it when it comes, but I'm afraid I'll have to spend a few months trying to learn how to post a photo or a drawing.

Hey Cutlass,

Chicken,
I can make you one if you want, it wouldn' take 5 minutes. I sent the one to Cutlass because I had it. I could make one faster than making a drawing. I just about made one for him as I couldn't find my extra one but I finally remembered where the spare was. Let me know and have a good day!

Hi Jim, now that your getting the bracket do you know what kind of screws hold it to the windshield? Also, what kind of bolt fastens it to the scuttle?

Here's a picture with the bracket in question on the left. The screw type is RMP 0203 which is a 1/8 dia. x 3/16 length Flat Head Countersunk Screw with chrome finish (check thread size at windshield frame, surely a fine thread). Originally the bolt to the scuttle was a HZS 0406 which is Hex Head, Zinc Plated, 1/4 x 3/4 length. This was originally a fine thread but it is very hard to find a well nut with those threads. So the shroud takes a well nut which is a rubber plug with encased nut that expands when tightened. A good hardware store should have these with 1/4" in slightly coarser threads.

These center windshield brackets are sold by Autofarm in Ontario and Kilmartin in Australia. All of Kilmartin's products are sold in the US by British Car Specialists. BCS has a separate online catalog for Kilmartin items.
