My windshield does not lean back far enough, there is a gap between it and the door vent window frames. Same both sides, increasing as you go up. I loosened the bolts and tried to move it back, but it would not go. I don't want to crack the glass. It has a new lower seal installed by incomptent PO, could this be done wrong?
 
Did you also loosen the small screw that's between the 2 bolts holding the windshield frame in place? & did you loosen the center rod also?
 
I didn't see a small screw, and I did somewhat loosen the center rod, but I did not really make sure it was loose since I did not know if it was required.
 
Loosen all the fasteners, pillar (left and right under dash, and the screw/bolt between) and center dash clamp and rod (this allows a certain amount of "fore and aft" movement). Check to be SURE the bolts at the sides are actually IN the threaded holes in the upright pillars. Sounds to me as if the DPO missed either front or back bolt holes. It's like wrasslin' a python on a bed of glass, I know, but one bolt "set" at a time both tops and both bottoms need to be inspected to be certain they're actually in the threaded holes. That "center screw" between 'em on each side Tony mentions (#10-32 machine screw If I Remember Correctly) allows you to line up the spacers with the pillar holes. Since you don't have 'em my suspicion is the main bolts aren't all where they belong. A small mirror and high intensity flashlight will aid you greatly. Hope this helps.
 
Correct, Doc...or, you can drill out the pop rivets that hold the little cover in place on thebackside of the bolts (you can see it when you open the door)...with that plate removed, you can`see both bolts where they go through & into the body itself
 
No matter which way you choose with this task, it's a P.I.T.A. Those li'l scuppers are more so than a small stalk mirror and MiniMag lite, IMHO.... 'sides, Tony, once I've pulled a part like that off, I tend to overdo: I'd be cleaning/painting, spraying RustMort, pullin' the windscreen completely off th' body, "chasing" the threaded holes, yadda-yadda-yadda... the old: "Well, since I'm already ~in~ there, may as well..." syndrome y'see.

I find that often a small digital camera with flash can save you from drilling out rivets and/or tearing up your hands and fingers when you have a hard time accessing something like this.
