Got any tips for adjusting the windshield. I replaced lower seal as well as side door to windshield post seals. I reinstalled with all bolts loosely in place and doors closed. tightented all down with doors closed. Now windshield moves visibly when I shut the DS or PS Door. What is the trick to getting this adjusted. BTW needed to add a stack of 3 washers under the center rod. Old windshield bolted flish. This is a later windshield BTW out of a 72+ Spridget.
 
SO anyone got any idea on how to get the windshield angle adjusted so it doesn't move and flex everytime I close the doors.
 
i would think the center support rod
should align everything,.. but i havent
installed my new WSheild yet so im not sure
exactly whats going on.........zimmmy
 
Can't go very far as base is rivetted to bottom of windshield frame. I have yet to figure out it's exact purpose. There is minimal adjustment there, I did need a stack of 3 washers under each screw of the Center Post to get it to bolt up. It might just be the new gaskets I put in there. They may need to be compressed for a while.

r u sure ur windshield/gaskets are together snuggly?

Isn't there a felt type pad that goes under the post?

Mine tightened down fine.
 
The rod in the center is an damper for the mirror vibration.

It sounds like the center rod is pulling it back, adjust as much as you can.

Also when you tighten up the side bolts have someone else pull the top of the windshied forward A little bit.

Even though you have the doors closed this should help un spring the weight load.
 
Should be a rubber pad under the windsheld posts.
 
Got all of the rubber pads in place and found the plastic center pad of course after I got all tightened up. Without the washers the windshield would have wanted to pull back even more. I may need to figure out how to:

A) Loosen the Center Post Rod
B) Loosen the bottom windshield frame bolts as there is some space for forward / aft movement in there
C) Slightly loosen the top windshield frame bolts
D) Find someone to come over and pull forward on top of windshield
E) With doors closed, stand on my head and tighten first DS Lower Bolts, release and then go over and tighten Passenger Side Lower Bolts
F) Tighten top Windshield bolts
G) Reinstall plastic pad and washers as needed under Center Post.

I'm sure need for additional spacers is caused by additional space being taken up by new lower windshield frame to body seal. If it is sitting higher it raises the entire windshield ths changing contact points/angle when windshield meets vent window frames.

Does this sound right. Will be interesting to see how new convertible top fits.
 
Jim that sounds good to me, you may want to double up on the center post pad, or add a spacer.
 
I found all the fore aft adjustment to be at the sides of the windshield. That center rod is always tight and I have always pulled it down with the bolts. Had some with 1/4" gap but they pull everything together snug. Discconect the center rod. Loosen all four windshield bolts and tighten them after you line them up with the doors. Than toighten the center rod back up.
 
Something else to go on the To Do List.
