WINDOW MECHANISM 76 MIDGET

My driver's door mechanism works nice and easy, but the pass side is very hard. I pulled off the inside panel and greased up(heavy)everything I could on the pass side, but it is still tough - especially the last 1/4 of travel. I am afraid I will break the handle some day. Nothing seems bent or damaged or even rusted. Any "quick fix" suggestions, or do I need to pull out the entire mechanism out of the door and see what the problem is? How bad of a job is this? Do I need midget hands? Thanks ......AL

Check the adjustment of the vent window and door latch side channels.
Look for bunched up felt in those channels.
And a little oil or vasoline on those channels works wonders.

It's likely that the inner crank pin is worn out. I've looked at several and all of them were badly worn. The grease on the crank gears get very hard over time but injecting new grease as you've don't should help. I'd try some silicone spray lube on the tracks. If that doesn't do it, you'll likely have to put the mechanism and rebuild or replace.

Thanks for your input. Both side channels look good and are not binding. I will try spraying more grease inside the mechanism where the gear is. What is strange is that the drivers side works so well - quite easy, even before I greased it. I might have made a tactical error by removing the lower bracket that holds the vent channel on, but I shall overcome. If the added spray grease still does not do it, how bad of a job is it to pull the window and assembly out? Any cautions?

It might just be out of adjustment.

It's not hard though there definitely is an order - I've done it and I think even have some pics if I can scare them up. My guess however is that it is an alignment issue. Either way, I'm happy to help.

You guys were right - it must be an alignment issue. I removed both of the side channels and it worked easy. I noticed that my vent gasket was bad so I don't want to put it all back until I get a new gasket. For some strange reason the previous owner purchased 3 new L side gaskets, but no R hand ones. Anyone want to trade ....I will give you 2 for 1. Thanks again ....AL

Alvin, I had similar issues with both windows in my car. Found that a quick spray with some silicon lubricant on the window felt guides and the lift rollers did the trick, both work great now and no mess.
